8 Easy Steps to Achieving Ezine Article Profitability

Introduction

Ezines and ezine articles are, potentially, a rich source for dual-fuelled online profitability.

Firstly, you have the ezine, itself, working for you as an entity: distributed to ezine directories, promoting your business, showcasing you as author and making you world-renowned.

Secondly, you have your featured ezine per article distributed to article directories, potentially being used in many other ezines worldwide and displayed on third-party websites and blogs across the Internet, helping your promotional efforts and enhancing your reputation as an expert in your filed as they go.

So long as you have a strong tie-in product or service from which to make sales and earn money, the twin elements of your ezine should boost your success rate and help you to achieve a position of dominance within your chosen niche.

So, how does it all fit together? Let’s take a look.

Step One: Assemble Your Ezine Toolkit

In addition to a word processing package, you don't need many tools at your disposal to publish ezines... and each but Item 5 in the list is free, although many autoresponder companies will offer a free trial period and free versions of their software, which carry ads and are basic featured.

Item 2 is not strictly necessary, but is worth doing if you do not have a hosted website.
  1. Visit Google and Bookmark the Keyword Tool
  2. Sign up for an account with Blogger.com
  3. Open an account with Twitter.com
  4. Open an account with Facebook.com
  5. Sign up for an autoresponder account
Step Two: Choose a Strong Niche

The biggest mistake new marketers (and, indeed, more than a few experienced ones) make, virtually without exception, is this: wrong niche choice.

When it comes to deciding niche choice, most will start the process on the thought: ‘What do I know?’ rather than: ‘What do people want and what are they looking for?‘

Training your mind to focus on and accept this one point as fact will save you months of anguish and set you on the road to Internet Marketing riches.

So, how do you set about the task of choosing a strong niche?  Like this:

  1. Type a phrase in the Google search box along the lines of: ‘Top Searches’; ‘Top Search Terms’; ‘Popular Searches’, 'How To', etc.
  2. Scan the pages you are presented with, look for a recurring theme.  Choose a topic that looks promising.
  3. Return to the Google search box, type ‘[the topic you have chosen] forums’ - e.g. 'home business forums' - (or ‘bulletin boards’, or 'discussion boards, etc) to check what’s being asked or discussed on your chosen topic. This step gives you your ‘angle of attack‘ - i.e. the question you will supply the answer to, or the problem you will solve.
  4. Create - or find - a product or service that will tie in with the theme of your ezine and your feature article, which answers the question or solves the problem you identified from your forum/bulletin board/discussion board research.
You have now identified a strong niche to work in, a precise need to fill (from the very mouths of your prospective customers) and you have designed and produced your own product; or sourced a suitable affiliate product.

Now you know the subject for your ezine and ezine article, next you need to do one of two things:

  1. Write your feature article
  2. Source your feature article elsewhere
Step Three: Article Sourcing

Should the thought of writing your own articles paralyzes you with fear, there are ways around this knotty problem.  Other authors will let you use their articles free of charge, provided you leave their signature/resource box intact when publishing.

That's only fair.  They are helping you with free content, your helping them get free publicity: a win-win.

These articles can be obtained from any article directory. You can use Private Label Rights (PLR) articles too.  Type either emboldened term into the Google Search box for lists.

Tip:  Check third-party articles for grammatical and spelling errors.

Step Four: Choosing Keywords

As well as quality, original content, you also need to be mindful of the words you use for your ezine introduction, feature article title and body text. These need to be as Search Engine Optimised as possible.

The best way to achieve optimisation is to go to Google and add their Keyword Tool to your browser's Favourites list (to use often!).  Now use as follows:

  1. Enter a word or phrase into the Keyword search box, as per instructions.
  2. Type the verification word into the box beneath it.
  3. Click the 'Get Keyword Ideas' button.
  4. After a few seconds, a list of keywords (or phrases) will appear under 'Keywords', with the month's 'Volume' figures to its right. The higher the number, the more popular the corresponding keyword (or phrase).
  5. Copy the most popular words (or phrases) and work them into your titles, headings, sub-headings and body copy.
Step Five: Ezine Publication Profitability

Ezines are the most cost effective way to promote your online products or services.  A well-written, original, story or article is far more likely to be accepted by an article or ezine directory, and Search Engines look on originality of content far more favourably and should rank your content closer to the top when returning search results.

Step Six: Adopt Social Networking

Social networking sites such as Twitter™ and Facebook™ can help no end to popularise your ezines, blog entries and articles.  You can even customize Twitter™ so that your Twitter™ entries automatically generate in Facebook™.  Here’s what you do:

  1. Register for an account with both Twitter™ and Facebook™.
  2. Click on the ‘Confirmation’ link in the email both sites will send you.
  3. Once confirmed, sign into your Twitter™ account.  Complete your ‘Profile’ (do the same with Facebook™ later), then look for the ’Goodies’ link at the foot of the page.
  4. On the next screen, click ’Widgets’.
  5. On the next screen, click ’Facebook™’ as your chosen Widget.
  6. On the next screen, click the title ’Facebook Application’, which is a hyperlink.
  7. Finally, on the next screen, click the ‘Install Twitter in Facebook’ button on the ‘Add Twitter to Facebook’ page.
Now when you make an entry (a Tweet) in Twitter™, your Facebook™ wall will update automatically with the same message, saving time on duplication.

Make regular posts to Twitter™ and Facebook™, get yourself well known, make contacts, attract a crowd of Followers, and you have a quick, no-cost, means of attracting a flood of targeted traffic to your website, sales page or blog.

Step Seven: Ezine Formatting

Having thought out the content of your ezine and written your feature article centred around your product promotion (or sourced one), you now need to format your work to ensure effortless - and therefore optimum - readability prior to delivery and circulation to directories.  My top formatting tips are as follows:

  1. Sign up for at least five ezines. These do not have to be in your niche.
  2. Compare each. Study presentation and stylistic elements, noting whether (or where) images are used.
  3. Note how many content sections are featured.  This will give you a feel for stylising and populating your own ezine.
  4. If planning an HTML version of your ezine, test it in two or more different browsers (Windows Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera etc) to check that it renders properly in each.
Step Eight: Ezine Circulation and Delivery - Autoresponders

Autoresponders are software scripts that allow you to distribute mass mailings automatically and at a controlled frequency.

When you sign up to receive your sample ezines (Step Seven above), they will have been delivered to you via autoresponder into your Inbox.

Autoresponders are much more user friendly than they used to be and are considered essential tools for ezine or article distribution.  They will allow you to set up multiple campaigns with as many prewritten issues as you wish; several years’ worth if you want!

Conclusion

Hopefully, you can now see - and are even excited by - the potential profitability in ezine publishing.

Marketing with ezines does require consistent effort.  When you start to publish, it is imperative that you maintain a regular delivery schedule: weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, the frequency is up to you: but once launched, keep it going... or risk losing credibility, customers and potential income.

Keep the content of your ezine original and fresh and your articles unique and tied in to your product theme. Keep your ezine content within three printed pages and your featured article within 700 words.

Use ezine and article directories to help circulate your ezines and articles more efficiently throughout the Web. Use social networking sites like Twitter™ and Facebook™ to drive targeted traffic to your website, sales page or blog.

All the above are cost-free advertising methods that should help boost your online recognition, increase your following and ultimately lead to improved sales conversion rates.

All of which might just see you attain that often elusive though very achievable online fortune.

Whether small or large is very much dependent upon what you do next.

To your ezine publishing success!

Create Your Own Marketing Ezine - The Basics

Ezines: What They Are, What They Do

Ezines are electronically generated magazines circulated via email; or to subscribers of opt-in website promotions.

Generally published weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, the purpose of an ezine is to inform, in as factual and entertaining a way as possible; much as you would expect from a printed magazine.

Ezines should only be sent to opt-in subscribers. That is, individuals who have purposefully signed up to receive your ezine via a form on your website, sales page or blog. An ezine not requested is Spam. Don't become a nuisance!

Ezine Content

Whatever the subject or theme of your ezine - and it should only cover one subject or theme - the one thing you must do is provide fresh, unique, original content.

Don't let this point bother you. If you lack confidence in your own ability to write, I'll explain later in this article how easy and painless this step can be. For now, though, trust me: original content is an absolute must!

Ezine Elements

As printed copy, your ezine content should occupy two to three pages. Too much information and your words will go unread - insufficient time. Less is more.

So what goes into an ezine? A section based on your own activities since last publication, both from a social networking and professional viewpoint, is a great starting point.

Why social? One thing you really, really, want to do is build relationships via your ezine. If you want to achieve longevity and the chance to build wealth through product sales, first you must become real to your prospective customer.

By sharing 'a little piece of you' with your readers - inserting a photo of yourself will also help - you will become a trusted friend, removing the main impediment to online success - anonymity.

A featured article should convey the central thematic content of your ezine. What you should aim for is to write one feature article for each publication, which should tie in with the product or service you are promoting that issue.

For example, suppose your product promotion is software concerned with Search Engine Optimization. Write your article to reflect the many benefits of Search Engine Optimization.

Product Promotion

You can promote your own or an affiliate product within your ezine feature article. Do not, however, include affiliate links in the main body of your ezine article. An article is meant to inform, not sell.

Instead, your product and download links should be located on your website, sales or blog page. Your product's promotional text should then be subtly woven into the body text of your ezine article which, whilst as informative and entertaining a read as possible, should compel the reader to click on your link in the Signature/Resource Box at article's end.

Note: Signature Box; also Resource Box. This is a brief description of your online experience, current activities and website address. A brief profile.

Article length - considering syndication with article directories - should be between 300 and 700 words.

Using Pre-Written Articles

As alluded to earlier; if the thought of writing your own articles paralyzes you with fear, there are ways around this knotty problem.

You may use any articles from my own site if you wish. Just click my link below.

Tip: Check article for spelling and grammatical errors before use, especially if using 'as is'. Should articles require extensive modification, copy them to a word processor, work through the text, rewriting as you go, to transform them into new, unique, articles that you can then call your own original pieces.

This exercise will train you in the craft of article writing. Do this a few times and you will soon be writing ezine articles from scratch.

To your ezine success!

What's Your Hang-Up?

Different people have different needs. Some see complication where others see simple solution; some see opportunity where others struggle to be inspired.

So what's your hang-up?

It's a serious question asked with the best possible intensions. I didn't find it easy pulling all the loose ends together. Making money online was no easy thing for me. That goes for perhaps 95% of those who look to and invest in Web-based income solutions. Oftentimes it is not the product or idea we invest in that's at fault, it's the requirements to successfully implement it that fails us.

Don't be held back by something you don't know or fully understand. That state leads to frustration and eventual bitterness at being sold "yet another scam": a conclusion that neither helps you nor the future of the World Wide Web as a trustworthy or valid business environment.

The solution? Tell me what your hang-up is! Tell me what your hang-up is and I'll do my level best to answer it. Whether you need a tool suggestion for a given task; ideas on where to submit articles and ezines for best exposure; how to get ideas and inspiration... anything, so long as it's to do with article, ezine or Web content issues.

Creating Web content is not particularly tricky (see article "Profitable Internet Marketing Articles - January (1)" below-right). Often what defeats an individual is the lack of time. So let me do a little research for you. Don't get hung-up!

To your success -JC

Profitable Internet Marketing Articles

There are many options available for making money online, but article writing works very well as an effective sales and marketing strategy.

It is, by far, the most cost-effective means of product promotion and information sharing; costing nothing, in fact, but a little time and thoughtful planning. In short, article writing is an online marketer's dream.

Contrary to common belief, article writing is not as tricky a skill as many imagine. You don't need to be a literary genius to be effective. Yes, it helps to have an interest in written-word communication and to have a grasp on basic grammar and English usage; but far more pertinent would be an enthusiastic approach to topical research and the self-discipline to ensure factual accuracy; for the truth and reliability of a story theme is what will set you apart from the masses.

As for content and readability, start with the following.

Basic Tools and Techniques of the Trade

Most online marketers will have access to word proccessing or desktop publishing software. Such software will at least have an in-built spellcheck facility; some will also include a grammar checker. For those who access the Internet via Internet cafe or a local library, open an account with Blogger at http://www.blogger.com and type your articles directly into the posting editor, then publish them online directly.

To get the layout of the article looking presentable, simply look at how other writers have gone about the task. Select an article you particularly like the look of and which reads well, then use that - but don't ever copy it! - as a pattern for your own effort.

A dictionary could be a handy standby to check spelling and word usage, as might a thesaurus for alternative word choices to avoid too much repetition. But beyond these two additions, above is all your basic article publishing kit need consist of.

Producing an Article

You don't even have to write your own articles, if the thought of doing so holds real fears. Article directories exist to help out in this instance. So long as you find articles with relevance to your subject or theme - and you keep any articles you do use intact to include full author credits - then you may use any articles from article directories free of charge. For a list of sites, type "article directories" into the Google search box.

In case your wondering why these articles are free to use: remember I said at the start that article writing is a popular low-cost advertising and promotional strategy? Authors place their articles with directory sites in the hope that others will use them, because it helps publicise and promote their own websites, products and services. Meanwhile, those who use the article get what they want - an informative article for use on their blog or website effort-free. Everybody wins.

But why not try to write your own articles? Then you, as author, will be able to use the article directories the same way; to promote your own website, product or service. There are a number of tools available to help you research, write and promote your articles and a great many benefits to writing your own material.

Not least of which: an article written and published with your own name accredited as author will not only be a unique piece, thus offering original content to the Web (which search engines reward), but will raise your profile and present you as an expert in the eyes of your readers. In turn, this should produce an increasingly loyal following.

The benefit of this perceived expert status could very well translate into increased sales conversion rates or greater readership of your information products and services as your reputation grows.

How to Make Money with Articles

Think of articles as your sales team or advertising agency. The point is to create something of value that will draw visitors to your website to purchase your product or service. To achieve this goal, the article content must be strong enough to induce the desire for further action or investigation. The article should therefore be rich in content, should solve or rectify a genuine problem or concern, and ideally offer something for free.

What your article does, in effect, is bring highly targeted visitors to your site who are more likely to buy because your article has already ascertained their interest and hooked them emotionly.

Author Recommendation

There is a great research and development tool currently on release that will save you hours of research and help you create an intriguing article in minutes. I find this tool invaluable. You might too. Why not take a look at the short video demonstration of the product - called Instant Article Wizard - in which you will see an actual article outline come to life before your eyes.
